Chiang Mai news & weather update

Yet another massive storm cell swept over CM last night between 10 and midnight. One tree knocked down and took out 13 PEA poles, HT and all 60A supply to one large section of our Moobaan. Many residents will be without power for 24 hrs and some can't even leave home due to fallen poles and cables.

Big cleanup of leaf and limb debris the least of their problems. Otherwise, a sunny but humid day.

Covid numbers still increasing and more events being cancelled. A full lockdown may eventuate.

2 weeks of wet and sometimes windy weather continues unabated. Last night was perhaps the longest sustained rainfall of an estimated100mm. The days are superb despite higher humidity.

Covid continues to flourish and the way its being managed I daresay it will only get worse. Cramming +ve tested ppl together into large halls must surely guarantee that even the false tests turn 100% +ve. Fortunately it is mainly younger persons who've contracted covid.

Hopefully with the [non-festive] holiday behind us some common sense will ensure a proper lockdown if numbers continue to explode.

Last 6 days we've had very little rain in the province, none in CM city area, and the days have been awesome ... hot 33 to 35c and generally clear skies.
Covid has everyone running scared, as it should, though it's too early to see a +ve downward trend in local cases yet. Songkran hols should have been postponed or travel cancelled, that's a given, not hindsight. As expected covid has been spread far and wide out of BKK with CM one of the 1st (and worst affected) but we are now seeing large clusters appearing in Isaan and other rural areas like Omkoi, here in the north.

Unless more clusters are found, like the ~50 Nuns here in Pa Dadt, I think we may see a downward trend within 7 or 10 days.

For some reason, wealthy Indians were allowed into BKK on charter flights or private jets and many have brought covid with them. I noted a public call for Anutin to be sacked was quickly removed from news sites.

Chom Thong thru to Lamphun copped the big storm winds and hail last night. Lots of trees down and other minor damage. We had an electrical storm pass over us which took almost 4 hours to dissipate, much thunder and lightning with just a light rainfall.

The past week has been mainly dry, hot and humid. Most days 32c outside in shade under deep blue skies and 29c pool temp. 30c inside the house. Icy cold beer in fridge!

Covid numbers continue to fall, 18 new cases yesterday, should see single digit soon. Mor prom vax regn works for farang with pink ID card, on LINE, but all in Thai. System takes advance bookings and one can also register at medical centres, hospitals etc on paper form. Seems we have AZ vax now in stock here but very few over 60's are registered direct with hospitals. Perhaps they'll bring bookings forward, or ....? TIT.
