These are the toilets at the White Temple, not sure why they have chosen gold in colour, the workmanship and attention to detail is magnificent..............

One of my favorite parts of Chiang Rai is the mountains out and around Phu Chi Fah and a bit further out to Doi Pha Tang, absolutely magnificent country to ride motorbikes, stunning views one-side into Thailand and the other direction into Laos.....................on a clear day you can see the Mekong River which is the border in certain sections between the two countries............

Thanks for the photo essay, Gavin. When I dig through my old files and load some onto IMGUR I might add a few of the general area. I have the intention of starting an account with YouTube so I can share some of my videos.

Serious? wow

Beautiful and yet so brutal to actually work those fields with your back bent all day.

This is the sort of setting I want to retire in.

And lets not forget the not so known black temple. Strange place, not sure the story behind it. Very interesting place to see.

A short drive from the middle of Chiang Rai city is Baan Dam (Black House) it is the unique creation of national artist, Thawan Duchanee. Part art studio, part museum, part home, Baan Dam is an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with some outlandish modern designs. Baan Dam is a thought-provoking combination of sanuk, the surreal and the sombre and whilst it’s fair to say that some of the artwork and themes on display won’t be to everybody’s liking.

Here are some photos I took a few years ago when I was there..........................

Chiang Rai also has the "Blue Temple"...........................Chiang Rai Blue Temple or Wat Rong Seua Ten is located in Rong Suea Ten in the district of Rimkok a few kilometers outside Chiang Rai. It is a recent temple which is still under construction even if its main hall is now completed. It is above all its magnificent blue interior with a large white Buddha that marks the spirits. It has been open to the public since 2016.

Here are a few pics when I was there last-year............................
