Anyone one here been around Bang Pla Samut Prakhan Province ?

I've got almost 3 weeks there for Christmas with Ms Do Ron . The big mango is only half an hour up the road i believe , apart from heading there for Christmas Turkey and meeting a friend between Christmas day and New years don't have any plans and a little uncertain what to do with the time .

Actually the Chao Phraya goes through Samut Prakan so you can explore the river area bit

But honestly not a ton to do in the area. Attractions wise

But plenty of easy BTS stops all over so you can get anywhere easy

Ya Ms Ron hasn't been home since parents moved there from central BKK so not sure what to expect . Cant really come back from Sukhumvit every night leathered to her parents .

Will hit up Samut Prakhan and BKK , think we have to drive to train station then get BTS in to BKK .

Don't see too much Farang activity locally on google maps .

I can give you good local spots to hit up if you want?

Like outdoor Thai pubs in Samut Prakan
My wife knows many of them

......
,,,, I can't think of a better place to do a daytime coffee shop crawl .... 555

I spent most of my recent trip to BKK - and most previous trips - around Samut Prakhan as Mrs M's family live in Bang Phli and the Minder Mansion is in Bang Bo on the other side of the Bang Na Trad Hway ( the road to Pattaya).

I like the area and enjoy my time wandering around - but it is basically Bangkok suburbia - nobody yells "farang" when they see you but - and the recent trip was a good example of this - you can wander around all day there and not see another farang.

A 300 baht taxi ride should get you home from Sukhumvit after midnight ...

We see more farang in my wife's old area because there is a lot of International Schools over that way, but not much

I will be off staying at our new house in Nonthaburi for 4 days next month..........I'd imagine I will be only white face for miles

Think that's where we are Bang Phli . An alloy wheel shop to keep us company

Been here half a week at this stage and its not too bad ,enjoying my little stay here.
Plenty out of town shopping malls that i haven't a great deal of interest in and some nice little Thai style markets dotted along the motorway .
Had Xmas Dinner yesterday in one of the expat bars on Sukhimvit - i almost forgot how poorand overpriced the food was in some of these establishments.

Off to Lumpini now for a potter about .
🏃🏻

I’m not sure if its our proximity to the motorway but there seems to be an endlss supply of SUV’s & High powered pickups in Thailand. Every man and his dog seems to own one .

The Thai’s in geneal around here are super friendly , certainly none pf the farang fatigue one my experience in phuket or pattaya .

After a bite to eat yesterday in Icon Siam we took the ferry straight across the Chao Phyrao to an Art museum with some quirky little ornament shops on the ground floor - worth an hour of your time if you like antiquity.

We walked the whole way up to China Town and onto Thonburi as Ms Do Ron wanted to be reminded of her old schooling days. Meandering through the soi’s i much prefer the old bangkok to the gaudy new shopping centres selling Italian Handbags half the population cant afford .

The thai food has been on point everywhere , need to get the camera out more often . Had a lovely Som-tam thai & Yam pla muuk yesterday .

Spent a couple of days last week down in Chanthaburi Province . The Ms family habe a share in a rubber farm down there , extended family own the other share as Thai’s tend to do .

Quite impressive Circa 400 acres if my translation from Rai is correct . I’d never even given a moments thought into the creation of rubber , The tree’s are meticulously scored with its liquid form being stored in a little pot ( thats the condensed version anyway )

The vista’s are from Leam Sing , id recommend a hotel called Maneechan Resort if anyone is the area .

If i eat anymore squid i’ll be pissing ink when i get home , had to include the toilet about 3ft off the wall . The things you see randomly in Thailand

Driving through or by rubber farms kinda creeps me out

If you ever seen the aftermath of a forest fire

It sort of reminds me of that and also kinda haunted

I understand what you’re saying , i did get an eerie feeling there . Though the inhabitants of the farm itself were unbelievably hospitable . They showered us with Gifts & sustenance on arrival . Couldn't do enough for us .

My Ms cousin is essentially the big boss of the farm , he inherited the farm through an unspeakable crime perpetrated against his father - which i obviously wont go into . He now runs the farm and is an avid martial artist & family man . A lovely bloke .

There was a fire there once but apparently banana tree’s planted strategically can help quell a fire , its not a easy as one my anticipate running a farm .

Rubber prices are well down for whatever reason, if you were contemplating venturing into this line of work ……

I was in Lat Phrao Saturday , quite like that area . Its got the ubiquitous shopping mall but not as pretentious as Terminal 21 or Siam Paragon .

Didn't see a whole lot in the way of Farang centric hospitality. Went to a place called Sab Indy on Saturday night , its like a Thai music / eatery plaza with live band .

Did a little Cycle tour around the Bang Kachao area of BKK , its almost like its own little island cut off by the Chao Phraya River . Its for the most part underdeveloped which is in stark contrast to Sukhimvit & Silom just over the River .

Rented the bikes for 100 baht i think it was , for the enthusiasts you wouldn't be doing the Tour De France or anything on one of these. Plenty of Monitor Lizards for company along the way . I don't know what Thailand's carbon footprint is but it must be substantial , someone needs to get down the Chao Phraya with a drift net and pull the single use plastic out of it .

The weather has been so mild here makes all these little outdoor activities so much more enjoyable .I put link below for example pf tour we did .

I love those big Thai pub/live music places! One of my fav parts of Thailand are those places

Will be trying to find some good ones around our new house in Nonthaburi next month
My wife has only spent about a week there since buying it, so she doesn't know anywhere, so we will just explore together

Ya they're big , they're loud , plenty of audience participation so don't go if you want a quiet night . Entertaining even if i didn't have a clue what the band were singing .

One of the biggest struggles i had in BKK suburbia was the lack of farang interaction , it was almost cathartic meeting up with an old friend in Khao San . A Thai' family spends an inordinate amount of time talking about food , its unbelievable 😅 . After a period you just want to discuss the cost of Living crisis or tax rates with someone . :)

I'm not going to get into a ' how much do i need to live in Thailand ' discussion but some of the Thai places beside us are super value .

We were in an Issan patronaged Bar a couple of weeks ago with its own toilet and live band .
We had 2 rice , a tam talay , fried veg with prawn , a goong orb woon sen , 3 pint bottles of Leo & a water for 699 Baht - if you cant afford that on night out you might aswell throw your hat at it

Is there a more Melancholic place in the world than the departure Lounge in Suvarnabhumi Airport , there's no sorta bar area for relaxing just a mix of souvenir and fast food outlets . Appreciate its an airport but its just devoid of soul

Plenty of Hotties though from the various airlines .

I haven't notice many backpackers , is Thailand not envogue anymore ?
