Getting Married in Thailand

^Strictly sapeeking....what happens is that on the first court date a "Decree Nisi" (Which means literally if not, or unless - presumably there are any objections) order may be made.
You cannot apply for a "Decree Absolute" until six weeks and one day later (Applicant) or three months (Respondent).
At the second court date, the "Decree Absolute", (Which means you are divorced) may be issued.
That's why they warn you not to rush off and get married in the interim!....555

You have the paper saving final version Gaz....:D

Well i will just have to take what ive got with me and if it aint right oh well ,i looked on the embassy website to email them and its been changed there is no email adress anymore ?you can ring them or fax them but no emails quite unusual .So apart from an international call or fax thats it not really what i would have expected as they had one not more than 2 months ago as i sent them a email asking if i had to bring the previous divorce certificate or just the last one ,only require the last one which was more of a bring me to australia so i can get what i want and then leave you hahaha .

Surely you're not suggesting a Final Order signed off by a Magistrate wont be accepted by the Embassy?

Or never get married...

Anyone care to explain the benefits of being with one woman only? And why faithfulness is a good thing?

I've never heard a rational argument for the affirmative... 55
Its called "LOVE" and once found it, you never want to let it go..... I guess marriage gives a feeling of security of commitment to that Love.....

Sure, people who have not experienced "true love" would find it hard to understand why marry.....

Not having a go at anyone and the above is just what i believe....

Cheers :)

Good for you Cobba, we all need beliefs, a document does not hold you to those beliefs but it does make you think twice as to putting your signature to such an affirmation. Sure i signed my first affirmation in good faith, shit happens.
I am legally married to my Thai partner, more so to give both parties some security.
Annulment is only a signature away.
Nothing in life is certain, do what feels right at the time.

What is love? Presumably you don't mean infatuation? Talking about relationships that last decades and get stronger with time... not just a few years... which is all I have managed...

As mentioned elsewhere the last "couple" of my generation that I know personally... who have been together over 30 years... raised a family and seemed like soulmates... broke up recently... so now I know no one personally from my generation who was together when I was 21... and are still together now...

Anyone on this forum been happily married for over 30 years and still in love?

It's bloody rare this long term love lark...

So have mine (They should have divorced 30 years ago, but mum was too scared to leave). Was talking about my generation... I don't count older generations as they seem to stay together whatever... 55

That doesn't mean there wasn't love

People look at divorce as a failure
It's not always a failure

If people are married for say 20yrs and the last 3yrs weren't that great I would still consider that a success

I've known my wife for 16 years
We've certainly had our ups and downs

No matter what happens I would consider it a success

Let's say it ended next year

I met a truly good person and shared some incredible fun times
Some sad times that we were there for each other
And all sorts of emotions

I'd look back at it with happy thoughts

Any relationship that lasts is great. It's the "love" part I am not so sure about... can that really last?

Is it worth foregoing all others for 16 years? That's what I struggle to imagine... I can't imagine it... it feels unnatural to me now...

I could imagine being close to someone for a long time.. I am still close friends with a couple of my exes... one I have been close to for about 25 years now... but looking back the thought of being with only her for the last 25 years is an uncomfortable thought... even though when we were together I thought I could love her forever!!! I know now there would be no way in hell I could have... I am just not made like that. I could like her forever though.. and still do... but not enough to make me want "only her".

I'd count myself in that group - together for 42 years and married for 40 of them. She's a great girl and got a fantastic husband.

Obviously your friends are vastly different to mine. I would say that a good 60% are still married after 30 plus years. My youngest brother going on 26 and my closest cousins about the same. And the obvious affection between the two of them is easy to see.

A forum like this is perhaps not the best place to judge relationships by.

I must be unlucky... 55

My dad has seven sisters and brothers.... he's the only one still with his first wife... same on my mother's side. Same amongst all my cousins... and friends I have known since school. Just that one family was left that I mentioned that ended after 30 odd years... now they are gone.

I am noticing in my generation and younger... relationships are getting shorter and shorter...

Good there is still some longevity about (like Buksida) but relationships no longer seem to have the same idea of "everlasting love" that they did when I was a kid?

Divorce rates seem to be on the increase... even though less and less people are getting married..

What happened to meeting your wife and staying married for life!
