And then you end up going back to those places once you come full circle and realise simple living is heaven...
It's not that simple of a life when you are poor
And many in this area are

We bought those uniforms for the kids today and I am glad we did
Many had ripped and torn uniform and socks

My wife has good memories of her childhood buy many bad ones as well
I don't think this trip was looked at as some fond walk down memory lane
A lot of hard memories for her here....

She isn't rushing back here anytime soon

That house was directly behind the school

Although she doesn't say much or show too much
It had to be incredibly powerful for her to come back and do what she did today at her old school

She often remarked that she remembered when someone would buy the kids ice cream or other things

And that she'd like to do that
Well she did it a lot more than that

Must have been pretty satisfying for her

Posting pics now

So we collected around 75k baht in donations, the bulk from the Vancouver stock market community, some from my firends at home and some from the Thais at Ao's work

I matched it with 75k baht of my own

Ao always remembered when someone bought them ice cream at school when she was a kid
And she has said for a long time she wanted to do that one day
And she decided to do it this trip

But I told her I thought I could collect some decent donations and really help the school

Ao landed on the 12th and hopped in the car the next day to drive 3 hours here and see what the school needed

It is only 4 young female teachers running the whole school
Ao talked to the teachers and they said some of the things they could use
Ao saw the state of the uniforms and socks and decided to get those for sure

So Ao got back to BKK and went and bought uniforms for 40 kids

We bought 2 computers and a printer

All kinds of notebooks and pens, school supplies

Extra socks

We also hired someone to come and reinforce some of the ceiling beams that look like would collapse

And then we stopped at Makro for the "good stuff"
Chips, Ores, juices

Oh and I asked collected good quality backpacks from the Toronto Stock Exchange and my firm as well
And although Ao wasn't enthused with that, they seemed to go over well

We actually still have 50k baht leftover and my wife told the teachers that we will be able to help going forward on things they need

It was a good day.....

Well that's a heart-warming story. Well done. Nice backpacks too. The teachers must have been chuffed.

My idea for the backpacks was that so many companies have good quality backpacks left over sitting in storage

To be honest
That could be a great initiative for a wider charity

I am sure companies companies could write off some $$ off that as well

Funny story about the backpacks

A group of about 5-6 older kids are graduating this school in a month and will go to high school where they will have to use that school's own backpacks

So the teachers told them they weren't getting backpacks because they wouldn't need them in a month

Well a couple of them were giving the teachers a hard time

And Ao got up and went over and gave them a stern talking for giving the teachers a hard time

She don't play around, that woman 5555

Actually looking at land the next few days

Then to the house in Nonthaburi for 4 days then down to Kamala
