Koh Kret

A simple day trip in Bangkok is to visit Koh Kret, a small Island on the Chao Phraya river at the northern end of Bangkok. Directly west of DM airport.
A lady friend and I caught a taxi from Ratchada to Wat Sanam Nuea near Pak Kret and then boarded the small ferry across to the island. Once on the island you can get another boat to take a 2 hour trip around the island stopping off at various points. Cost about 70bht.
On the Island there is a small street lined with gift shops, coffee shops and restaurants, some with great views of the river. During the week some are closed because it is quiet but weekends it gets busy and the place gets packed. Many of the houses are built on stilts due to the area completely flooding at times. Some owners were keen to show us the tide mark on the property. Well worth a visit if you get bored of the city.

I'm pretty sure she is Brazilian

Her accent is Latin(Portugese) not American

and her name is definitely Brazilian

I suspect a Thai parent in there somewhere. Or she spent some of her childhood there.

I looked at a day trip to Koh Kret before but honestly it didn't seem appealing. I am on the lookout though for daytrip ideas. Maybe deserves a thread of its own.

Some I was thinking of:

Samut Songkram - there's the famous railway market plus some temples. It's along the river too.

Suphanburi - main reason I want to visit here is to see wat phai rong wua. A giant Buddha and hell garden. Similar to the one in Ang Thong I went to a few years ago.

Go with locals!

In May, if I go and my nephew is with us, we will go to Suphan to my wife's village for 2 days

Bring you to MoneyPub in Singburi, you might do well!

I generally always do. It's the best way with a local. Last time this one girl brought her car and drove us all around Ang Thong. Stopped at a few temples in Ayuthya on the way back.

Reckon I'll check out Suphanburi as there are a few temples there so that's my day sorted. 555

The girl that went with me to Koh Kret is great fun and she loves to take me around some lesser know Bangkok attractions. We went to a Coca-Cola museum and a mock up old time grocery store and class room of all places. Very bizarre but good fun 555. A place named Ban Bang Khan .
I’m staying with her for a while next month and her sister, who is a teacher and lives in Chonburi has offered to put us up for a few days and offered us the use of her car. God knows where we will end up this time.

It seems like every house on Koh Kret is trying to sell something. Like little cottage industries, all busy doing something. There is a working pottery which manufactures some nice pieces but it is all part of the owners home. Like going back in time with the big city 200metres away across the river.

Sex sells. It always has. Add a pretty lady to anything for sale and it brings in customers. Coffee shops with pretty waitresses are are always busy... regardless of the quality of the coffee. Motorbike and auto shows and races all have pretty ladies for decoration.

Fishing is mostly a male oriented pastime, but add a pretty lady who likes fishing to a television fishing show and the viewer results go up. It may be unfair in life, but attractive people get more lucrative offers for advancement.
