Headed to Lamai staying at Lamai Inn 99. I have been to Lamai I think 3 times before but haven't stayed here before. Close to perfect for me. Central location, good beach for running/walking and swimming, I can work on outside tables facing the beach or in the coffee shop with aircon, and all right next to the room.

Lamai is also quiet, yet the bars are full, just not customers! Boxing got a reasonable crowd on Saturday.

Lamai Inn below. 4 rooms on the beach in the centre building, kitchen and restaurant to the left, and aircon coffee shop/food far left.

I really liked Bang Rak area over by Fisherman's Village

If standing facing the ocean it's about an 8min MB ride to the right

Can't go wrong with an IBIS in Thailand, I just don't like it as my 1st hotel because the rooms are a bit basic, always want a more luxurious room as my 1st stay for a few days

I walked down to the IBIS on beach from FV
I didn't realize it was that far

And agree with soft sand
That one beach I stayed in DR was perfectly hard
Walked 1 to 1 1/2 hours each morning

Lamai Inn 99 - I stayed in those beachfront rooms way back in 2012. Great spot there... beach front and close to the town centre... Only thing was it didn't feel that secure on the beach... like anyone could walk off the beach and break in... 55

Can't believe it's 11 years ago...

Seems to be more weed being openly smoked around Samui than Bangkok and Phuket. Guy smoking in the bar opposite Hemry Africa, and others outside the bars in Chaweng, security guard doing night shift at the hotel, and the beach sweeper this morning.

Yes seemed more open in Koh Lanta and Ao Nang as well

I went to a bar in Koh Lanta advertising as a Cannibas Bar and it had weed right at the bar

I bought it and smoked it at the bar

Lamai Inn 99 was definitely a popular spot on the forums

There was a decent 3 star place next door with a pool by beach that was a nice place

^ Interesting comment that the worst land was the beach as you could only grow coconuts, thus massive switch in wealth when Samui was commercialised with the poorest (coconut growers) becoming the richest.

Sounds like a top bloke.

Would have been some rough travelling though. I don't care how great people keep saying everything was "back in the good ole days". You take air-conditioning away from me and I don't give a shit how much of a paradise we're talking, it'll still be hell 55

I'm doing AC less and less as I get holder

I'd rather be a little bit hot than have AC

But if I'm uncomfortable I will use AC

But I really only like central AC, not one that blows air out

he is a regular in samui..used to see him out and about a bit...nice quiet guy...liked his sportsbars...

and I enjoy his type of vlogging...down to earth, more local oriented and obviously he has an affinity with the joint...

Looking forward to a stroll through Fisherman's at night. It looks a lot busier since they changed it into a walking street after hours.

I am wondering if Lamai Night Market (Sunday Night) has ever come back..still hadn't in December 2022 when I left.....

From what everyone tells me there it certainly seems busy enough now...
