Still not 100%.

Khao Lak is very cheap, but weather isn't as good, and looks more like a family trip place.

I was also thinking about getting the train from Surat Thani after KS to Singapore, stopping 3 or 4 times along the way. I don't need to be in Singapore until the 18th. But, it looks like a lot to navigate. May try Singapore KL or the reverse first another time.

Anyway, a bunch of things now behind me to give it proper thought.

It's good for eating, scootin' and hammock time. A family place as well, but Lamai does have Dog Shit Alley

Samui Sense is a nice hotel right on the beach...easy one minute walk to Dog Shit Alley and all the nightlife, restaurants etc....

The other one is a scoot ride every time you want to go out...PITA

Samui Sense gets mixed reviews, although many comments reflect it being a vacation rental rather than hotel.

I never have, but it's usually under 100 bucks a night or ballpark, so I don't bother. Their website doesn't quote you, so you have to ask them. I'm sure it'll be a bit cheaper, but I normally like to book without paying upfront in case my plans change, so I've always gone with Booking or Agoda.

I do highly recommend the place though.

Small ones can be lazy and staff working in bigger places sometimes don't have the flexibility. A couple of times I have gone online whilst in reception to book!

We stay a pretty decent hotel near the village

New owner is super nice guy and really hard worker

But his wife(gf) is super lazy and think she's in charge of the front desk/bookings

One time we stayed there but it said it was sold out on all the booking sites

We got there and were only guests for 2 days

We told and she just shrugged


Even the restaurant is night and day difference when he is around vs here

Meanwhile he's loaded and she seems like the "new" younger wife
