I actually have never carried a photo copy or my passport while in Thailand, Indonesia or Philippines. I do in China.

Most the time in Thailand my room doesn't have a safe and just leave it in the room. Wouldn't do that in Indonesia or Philippines.

I also drink the tap water in Thailand so maybe I'm just careless.

I don't know where the OP is planning on going... But if he can find a Kodak Express shop, they will colour copy your photo page and your visa stamp page, then shrink it to the size of a cc, laminate it, all for somewhere about 100 baht, depending on where you are.. Put it in you wallet and you are sweet on the off chance you are asked to provide it...

I have even used them before when I have forgotten my PP when exchanging some cash... no worries

Keep a scan of your passport somewhere "in the Cloud" that you can access via your phone/internet ( and I guess take a photo of your Visa on Arrival if you think of it) - have found a virtual copy (or a photocopy) can be good enough for a Hotel check-in when I have left the passport at "home" but don't recommend it.

I never carry more than a copy of my PP when out for the night in LOS/BKK

^Ive got mine on dropbox.
Mind you many of the Thai cops can't read english and will likely ask the nearest farang what it says...555

Oh...just remembered...this doesn't cover "Ladyboys stole my phone"....555:respect::??:

When I arrive in Thailand for my holiday and first go to my hotel room I am always a little weary about the hotel room security. I wonder how secure some of these room safes really are. I've had a few that weren't even bolted down 555.
But the plus side of that is if you worry about leaving things in the safe, you could always take the safe with you when you go out on the beer 555

i have my passport and license scanned and attached to a draft email in my Yahoo account.

If I get everything stolen, passport, license, phone, laptop etc i can go to an internet cafe and print them off.

I keep my passport in the safe and carry a coloured copy of it and my license in a clipseal bag in case of rain etc.

But I never take my phone out with me when drinking... I always assume I will arrive back at the hotel drunk and naked... so what don't I really need to take with me... 55

geez...so many ways of skinning that same cat 55

once you get a thai DL it's enough by itself as it also has your PP number noted on it. that number is all they need to check overstay,wanted etc
