Outside kitchen

Do you have an outside kitchen? Somewhere to cook that smelly stuff.

I’m just finalising some building plans for our new place (in Aust) and was going to add a outside kitchen. If you have one what did you include in it.

Ours is a freestanding lpg cooker on rear balcony off kitchen. It's protected from winds by a corner wall and 1.2m eaves. I also use it when browning meats to prevent heat and oily splatter/smells, inside on hot days. This simple arrangement, plumbed into LPG supply from garage below, suits our current needs.

Next house will have a larger internal kitchen plus full outdoor complete with prep bench/sink, bbq and pizza oven. I envisage that one being under a high roof (~6m) between main house and pool/courtyard.

Best to examine your own cooking needs and determine what suits you both best.

What's the reason for the high 6m roof ?

Ours is 3.2m but I'm looking for some overhead fan type rang hoods. Most are not that powerful.

I have a big sala at the back of the house that I put a gas cooker on and cook outside when the weather allows. Oven and Microwave are inside obviously.

Next house will have roof over part of courtyard and pool with alfresco living area protected on 2 sides and with high roof open to north and east ... sort of like this only more tiled area between house and pool >

Pool...your kidding?

On average I think i used one in CM maybe 1 1/2 times /week. Not worth the hassle, IMO.

Does the missus get hit with tax for flipping these houses?
And how do you find the market for s/h houses - farangs only?

Open air pools hold no interest for me either. Even the super new refurbished mooban pool is lucky to have 2 or 3 ppl using it on a hot day.

A smaller pool with jacuzzi like the one our friends have (below) would be used daily if partially shaded in HOT season midday to late afternoon.

Present house not suited to a pool due to trees and we can lease it easily at 30k+ per month.

Anything electric hot plate stand alone is cheap as chips so why not go with that.
Combine with LPG burner wok frypan etc simples....all in and out and done....

Anyone know anything about teppanyaki BBQ's

From what I can see you can get both gas and electric. What would be the better ones to get. I would assume the electric would be a more even heat throughout the plate. Also some are steel and some stainless.

In Canada we call them a "sun deck" and are used only in the summer... which lasts about 2 weeks when there is no snow on the ground. That is where the barbeque sits for the odd occasion when guests come over. Sitting or standing in the rain while cooking isn't much fun. 555. I rebuilt my new "sun deck" last year to the tune of $5000. It hasn't been used once this season. I get of brush off the falling leaves in the rain every couple of days. 555
