Whats the room rate at the Dusit ?
I paid about 5k/nt with breakfast through Wotif.com
An Australian site that always seems to be much cheaper than the rest

I was surprised it was only 5k/nt
They were packed with the LPGA tour staying there
Plus a bunch of Thai dignitaries for that LegendSiam open
And a pretty raucous conference of what seem well off young Thais

They didn't have rooms until rooms became available the night before I wanted to stay
So I was surprised it was only 5k baht/nt

I really like those older big 5 star hotels in Thailand
I even like the fact they are a bit dated
Some of the new hotels are gorgeous but so modern you don't feel like you are in Thailand

^ Nah.... 'songthaews' that run certain longish routes , like over to Phuket Town .. more like a bus route,

For those who recognise 2:49 ( girl with umbrella ) as the end of Sawatdirak rd on the beach. All that land with some little bars and massages and Sabai Sabai restaurant is all demolished right down to The Impiana ...
Yes ... another resort ....sigh...

Also , a new Central has opened in Patong. Its opp Jungceylon on the Bangla side

^Ah ok. I haven't been to Patong for ten years now. So some of the views from 1993 looked familiar. Probably not so much now!

Yes Nanai was an eye opener... those nice homes with a sloping garden were already almost slums by the time I moved here ...

Middle broken rd is by far the most changed.
You couldnt turn left on it from Sansabai and go more than 100 metres before you came to fenced off Buffalo paddocks.
Or turn right and you got maybe a km..
Its a major thoroughfare now , with an unpronounceable name.

Can anyone remember the name of the Expat who owned the Bar in Soi the Expat Hotel is on ? I think he was a BM on PI . It was on the left hand side going from Expat towards Bangla .

Yes , Moo is correct.
Crusty aka Crustacian aka Paddy.

He had a place on the part of Sai Nam Yen that goes inland to Baan Mon where Nicky used to live.
"Gollum" , Simon says hes still around those parts..
