Can anyone remember the name of the Expat who owned the Bar in Soi the Expat Hotel is on ? I think he was a BM on PI . It was on the left hand side going from Expat towards Bangla .
I'd never would have stayed at Expat Hotel but I liked the place
Like a relic from the past

When I lived in Patong I used to go to the Expat diner to read and eat
Loved it

i stayed there on my early trips , pretty basic , iirc you had a choice of fan or aircon rooms , and the cheapest didn't have hot water... enjoyed the place though , the Hashers used to meet there as well , the bar / restaurant was decorated with their TShirts

I hung out there when crazy Jaybee from PI used to stay there
I thought the pool and setup of the hotel was pretty cool

I'm just a priss when it comes to the luxury of a room/bed

Also great location right in the action but quiet

Thanks, was driving me mad

That was the craziest place I've ever been
I never saw it while it was open , but I stayed at Expat (once) and walked past the entrance of Valhalla often but it had been closed down by then . To be honest the place gave me the creeps..... Not sure why, it just looked spooky .
The place looked huge , I can only imagine what it was like when it was open . Googlened the meaning of Valhalla " Hall of the Slain" 55555 sounds about right .

Jan was one of the caraziest cool guys I have ever met...he'd be out drinking all night and then come in early morning to find us all in his jacuzzi...so he'd cook us up a big batch of scones or something equally as obscure and mummy like..555

Jan is still around - hes the owner of Hilltop Hotel above Patong , and lots of the old timers stay or go and eat with him.
Hes actually the 'blacksheep' of a billionaire family.

The bars still look pretty dead

May need to stay clear of Bangla when I go to Phuket

My wife will make me but 4000 lady drinks because "no hab customer " 😀
Don't know if Patong had been any busier this time of year prior to Covid - there was always a lull just before Songkran .

Maybe have been more mainstream tourists / backpackers floating about .
