wow..it was a series of sleepy little seaside villages plus a port town when I started going there about 15-16 years ago....I haven't been now for about 6-7 years...back then it was full of Russians and they were dominating/spoiling the landscape but the Chinese had moved in on the Casino market...the Chinese are now filling Hun Sen and his party member's pockets, including the military, and in turn are reaping the rewards of developments all around the country...particularly in PP where they are building most of the new tall buildings and infrastructure....my guess is that it will be a Chinese Outpost within the next 10-20 years..they will own it lock, stock and smoking barrel

I stayed there about 6 weeks ago for 2 nights. Nothing but a huge construction site with none of the infrastructure, cars and trucks everywhere, pot holes in roads that you could bury sheep in. Our taxi on the way to airport had the exhaust ripped off going through a hole only to catch some metal reo in the road.

The locals advise that Chinese labour is used everywhere, except for some of the concrete trucks etc., Chinese are also imported for the casino jobs, except the menial tasks, A lot of local displacement and the local Thais are not happy; they know that they have been sold out to the Chinese by their own.

Sorry, Baccs, I would say that they are already a Chinese outpost, sadly. I feel for the locals.

Don't waste any of your time at "Snooky", there are some other places that are supposed to be quite good other than PP and SR.

Have to be stopped because they're using slave labour, colonising poor nations and taking advantage of their natural resources? The bastards!

OK, irony aside, I agree with you. They're a freight train with no breaks on and it's all going to become increasingly problematic. They wouldn't be as bad if Mao hadn't destroyed a large part of their culture, manners and deeper history and philosophy. Otherwise I'd love nothing more than a country like China dominating the world. They will still bring a lot of benefits as well as destruction, just like any empire. So I hope people stop their bitching soon and get cracking on their Mandarin lessons. It's going to be an interesting century for sure.
