My wife and her son are convinced they will make millions buying sneakers (runners) in Canada and selling them to Nut's friend's at University

There is demand and they will make a bit of money

What is funny is that my wife knows she can make a lot more money buying high end handbags here and sell them in Thailand

But, even though she won't admit it
She wants her son to look cool at school getting sneakers that are hard to get in Thailand 5555

Surely import duty would negate any profits
This would just be "carry in"

They were talking about a bigger scheme with shipping, but as you point out not feasible with import duty

And that's why she really is just doing to to make her son look cool 555

He could wear them once, take back in his case and sell for near new price.
If they look as though they have been used. surely no duty on that.

Whoever he sells them to all is has to say is that he wore them once, realised they were to small, so decided to sell them

A lot of talk on Thai forums apparently about Thai expats getting stung on duty e.g. bringing in two or three handbags, gifts, etc. So I now get lumbered with the gifts!
