there are a million areas you could bunker down in and never even get into the hustle and bustle of BKK, with the occasional wanted excursion outaside your local hub

Exactly.
Each time I visit I discover a new area with new bars/ restaurants and live music. Plus I have the added bonus of a local girl in tow who , together with her friends, who know some nice places off the tourist map.
I think I could easily live in the Bangkok area, more so than Pattaya. A couple of days in Pattaya is enough for me these days.
Hua Hin area is also appealing and of course Phuket but I haven’t been back to Patong for 6 or 7 years.

I will always spend time in Bangkok, I am a city boy, always have been
My plan is 6-7 months in village
But with week splurts down to BKK every 2-3 months, only 1hr45mins away
Then 2-3 months in Boston
And two 1 month stays down the beach areas
1 month per year in Kamala and then change location every year to a new beach area for a month
With plenty of short trips to neighboring countries..............
