Thai Dreamers in Thailand

A month in Thailand from 13th August to the 12th September. Three nights in Bangkok and then off to Chiang Mai and surrounds till the 10th of September. One more night to say goodby to Cowboy and then back home leaving on the 11th.
Hopefully by then the rain and cold at home will have subsided. Or at the very least , i will have had a decent break from it.
I would have liked to spend longer with the new Visa rules, but a family wedding decided the length of the trip.
Any side trips this time Pete to other country's?

I was in Vietnam earer in the year, it is fast becoming a favourite. This trip will just be Thailand.
With some luck and if the other nephew does not decide on a mid winter wedding, I am looking of an extended trip between both countries for at least three months. Looking to base myself mostly in CM and Da Nang.

What is your attraction to Da Nang.

Don't know, never been there 5555

I have been through, past and around though. It is very much central and close to Hoi An and a lot of other attractions.
The beach area runs for miles and seems to be very accessible. Not so much for swimming, but loads of places to jog, cycle or walk. And it is not as busy as Hanoi.
It kind of reminds me of home.

I have see loads of video's on the area and most are very positive. It just seems like a nice place to spend a few weeks.
I quite like this guy and his travel advice, a bit closer to my age.

Best part is you can just up and leave if it ends up not being what you thought it was!

In your book. Start off that the first 10 years of your "marriage" was spent separated in two different countries by 15,000 miles. Let's ease into it....🤣

I'm happy with my life
Don't feel the need to justify it to you....

As usual, you've shown yourself to be a classless asshole

You shouldn't have called me a doofus...555

I'm glad you're happy. even though your dream of raising your own family didn't pan out. Good for you. You managed to trick yourself that you're ok with it. Life is full of compromise. But maybe. Next time. When someone posts a thread about a book to help newbies in Thailand. Don't come on shooting your mouth off how no one needs a book. That's being a big hypocrite. Look in the mirror..👀

I'm not taking life advice from a guy who was alone in a hospital room after a heart attack and is always the "friend" at holidays.....

I'm good.......

You still have time bud. Start a new life. A young bar girl can push out three kids in 6 years. Don't be a quitter...👍

I liked it myself, liked that long beach too. I did like Hoi An too. Actually enjoyed the north end. They do some one way MB trips out of Da Nang with a driver, you just site on the back and enjoy the ride. Lots of tunnel's and great senary.

I spent a couple of nights at An Bang beach, just up from Hoi An and I would not mind spending a little longer there, all of them within 40 minutes of Da Nang.

I have fond memories of Vietnam. A 28yo very petite yoga teacher I nearly married. The shapes she could bend herself into lol...
We did a trip on her little Honda from Ho Chi Minh city to her sister's place in Ha Long. 1800km over 5 days from memory.

Currently in Mae Sot, Tak Province. A lot of interesting things here I’ve observed.

1. The Burmese influence is huge. The women with their painted faces and men smoking cheroots. A lot of the ma and pa type shops are run by Burmese.

2. GPS doesn’t work so well, even if the AIS network is working. Can’t create exportable .kml or .gpx files in lots of places.

3. Had a military ID check this morning. There was a checkpoint on the eastern edge of town (not the border side) and they were checking everyone’s ID. They weren’t interested in me though.

4. I didn’t realise how narrow the Moei River is. Can’t be more than 30 or 40 meters. Razor wire on the Thai side. Lots of foot traffic going both ways across the Friendship Bridge. Saw a bunch of school kids crossing over at about 4pm. Do they live in Mae Sot but go to school across the border?

5. I’ve only seen one other farang, a grim-faced chap sitting outside a dental clinic. He probably had a root canal scheduled.

6. The border market is lively. Whiskey seems to be the hot item at 700 baht for a liter of JD. It was the only thing people were buying. Do they know the same bottle retails for 300 baht in Japan I wonder 😎

Want to add one more detail:

7. Mae Sot Night market is the worst I’ve ever been to in the kingdom.
Meat on a stick ? Forget it, all prepackaged crap. And all the restaurants are serving packaged noodles.
Finally saw my first farangs other than the dental patient.
I feel sorry for them 😕

That wasn't me sitting outside the dental office, I'm still in the U.S. of A.

Oh, wait, you weren't talking about me. Sorry, my dental phobia kicked in.

Any one in the Nonthaburi area? Wife and I have a condo there, that we bought a couple of years ago, on the river, off Sanambinam Road, near the Phra Nong Klau Bridge ...
If any one is in that area, do you know of any good restaurants that serve western food?
Museums that you have been too and would recommend going to?
Good coffee houses that have a good view of anything?
Edit:
Forgot to ask about bicycle shops where I could purchase a moderately priced bicycle.
