One of my workmates has just returned from 3 x weeks in Chiang Mai, he was supposed to be motorbike riding with Norabunga and now tells me he has met a girl !!!..........and he is flying back to Chiang Mai this weekend to apply for a Tourist Visa for her to come back to Australia.

Question.............Has he known this girl(3 x weeks) long enough for the Immigration Department to grant a visitor visa ?

She has never had a passport, applied on monday for passport, I said all you can do is put the application in and hope for the best. Ive been giving him a hand with the paperwork and hopefully she gets the visa.

Just summit as much info as poss maybe make a bit up like met on a dating site 6 months ago. He may need to put some money into her bank to show dhe can support herself while in Aust.

BTW Gav got a question for you. On the patner visa we summited the certified copy of Janices birth certificate. However we have lost the original since. Will she be asked to provide an original?

If I remember right She need to documentate 40000 THB at her bank account. I believe this is a demand from the Thai government.

We did the full submission online, and not certified. Original was never requested.

Hi Revo, your mate should just show one of his accounts with money in it ( photo copy of very recent statement) and state he will support her during the time of her stay. I think it has been covered before and it all worked for me on three occasions.
The girl can do the application from the Post Office via VFS.
I would advise a completed Stat Dec ( signed by a JP) stating his employment situation and his intention to care for the TG during her visit and an undertaking he will ensure her departure before the expiration of a Visa, if granted. Sure there are examples on the board somewhere.
Passport should be about a week from application for TG.

Thanks for the replies.........I ended up doing the letter and stat dec for him 555..........He's back in Chiang Mai tonight........and paperwork will be submitted as soon as she has a passport, she applied last tuesday for the passport. I worded the letter pretty good IMO and included the next to weeks as knowing her, so 5 x weeks in total

I'll update when he gets the news on the Visa, one way or another

I wish it was that simple in Canada and the USA. Canada customs is paranoid that the girl will take a runner once she gets here. It is FAR, FAR different if you are actually married. Then it goes through quite easily once you fill out all the forms. Much different if the woman has substantial money, property, job and possessions in Thailand. Then it is like all the wealthy Chinese that Canada allows into our country.

Just hang around the bus stop Forbes.
I have a few funny stories from just that situation, Baz. Fresh off the farm and we had a great time together. I've got a few photos from those great memories. Just lucky to sit beside lovely lady on a bus heading for Pattaya from Bangkok. By the time we arrived we didn't want to separate.

Update............................

I advised my mate Dave to submit paperwork in CM via VFS as that was where they were based, they decided to submit paperwork in Bangkok on their way to Phuket for a 5 day trip, after he told me that I said I dont think thats a good plan as you will have to go back to Bangkok to pick up the visa application result. He spoke to his TG and she has told him that she can get result over the phone ?......may have changed since I was doing Tourist Visa's ?

Yesterday Dave tells me the application is ready to be picked up, in Bangkok 555................and they wouldnt tell his TG the result over the phone 555............So sounds like no changes 555..........We'll find out Monday the result

She is headed down to Bangkok on monday for the result

That's what happened when I did it. Bit frustrating as we were in Chiang Rai at the time and didn't know if approved or not.

^ Dave was surprised the approval came through, she got a quick phone interview lastweek and she couldn't answer some basic questions, forgot his surname and they asked where in Australia he is from and she only new Australia 555................I told him no point guessing the result until the envelope is opened, and to his surprise it was approved. You might bump into them Ozzy as he lives in Mandurah.
