I took a Amtrak super liner from Sacramento to Seattle on Tuesday. 20 hours. Just for an adventure.
The sleeper I was in was excellent, massive windows and the meals where great, scenery was breathtaking and the car was brand new.
Really quite as it just seemed to float on the second level. Could hear the train whistle faintly and that was really relaxing…

it’s called the coast starlight and worth it imo.
Spent the next day at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle and that was absolutely FANTASTIC!! The stuff they have is mind blowing and they spared no expense on the architecture or displays. It was/is funded by Paul Allen’s trust and apparently didn’t give a fuck what it cost to get the items on display! Google it. https://www.mopop.org/exhibitions-plus-events/exhibitions/

Sounds like a fantastic trip. Would love to do that one day.
Although I do a lot of train travel in Thailand and the U.K. I have never done a sleeper train. If I have time on this trip I may take a sleeper train from Bkk to Chiang Mai.

Very interesting exhibition. I prefer modern cultural exhibitions of say the last 60 years. Music ones especially. I went to a Rolling Stones exhibition in London a few years back and it was excellent.
Never been one for ancient history.

Sounds like a fantastic trip. Would love to do that one day.
Although I do a lot of train travel in Thailand and the U.K. I have never done a sleeper train. If I have time on this trip I may take a sleeper train from Bkk to Chiang Mai.

I've done that sleeper both ways CM-BKK and BKK to Surat Thani then rode back to BKK along the coast. Great adventure.

Met a lot of young Euro traveler types along the way. Great way to travel...think i'm too old for it now 55

Richard Barrow has been putting together an excellent Facebook site called Thai Train Guide. He has been travelling around Thailand by rail and shared his experiences.
He list’s suggested trips and gives info on dates, timings and prices. Some trips are daily services and others are specials.

Although the new station at Bang Sue is up and running now there are still services running to and from Hua Lamphong station.
I’m glad they have decided to keep it open for now because it’s a fantastic landmark and steeped in Thai railway history.
Bang Sue is just a huge concrete jungle, more like an airport than a train station.
