Visa Exemption Rules

And may be extended for another 90 days to 270 in total, at the discretion of your Immigration office.

The VE permit of 45 days (once implemented) may still only be extended for 30 days at a time*. 75 days max for most VE applicants.
*A VE entrant with a Thai spouse may apply for up to 90 days stay, with proof of marriage.
So a farang married to a thai only get 90 days...that's very little.
Some South American countries get 90 days on entry....boggles the mind.

The 60 day visa here means sending paperwork and passport off to Pretoria. Something that I am reluctant to do. Add in cornier fee's. I would rather do the 45 days plus an extra extension in country. 90 days at this stage would suit me just fine. So I am hoping that it gets extended past March. Or I may have to bring my next trip forward.
We have E-visa now in Canada for Thailand

They asked for a ridiculous amount of information, even a picture of me holding my passport...............but really only took 15mins to finish and got it in 2 days

Where did you see that? I have never seen that................I may start doing 90 day stays, once per year...........at least hoping/trying to

Wish it was that easy here, hopefully it will be going forward.
I e-mailed the embassy in Pretoria early this year with regards to a 60 day visa, and they sent a reply with a list of required documents and instructions on having all the documents being couriered to them. with a week turnaround. But that was when Covid measures were still very much in place.
I will probably mail them again towards the end of the year and see if it any easier now.

It's in the rule book but very few VE entrants bother as most are FIFO workers and only return for ~30 days at a time. As always, the extra 30 days is subject to having all the correct Thai marriage documents and you'd be advised to get Ao to check with CW Immi office to ensure they have no extra requirements. Each region make up their own 'special' rules 😳

I sent off for my E visa today. Plenty of things to upload. Had to take JPEG pics of passport information page, all the passport stamps in the last 12 months, a passport photo and one with yourself holding your passport., proof of address, bank statement, flight booking and hotel booking. Also sign a declaration form and the payment £30.
I did it all on my iPhone. Fingers crossed in goes through ok.

My visa email came through this morning so all in all a painless exercise. It took 3 days to process and all I need to do now is print off a copy.
There are a couple of YouTube videos showing you step by step on how to apply for E visas and I found them quite useful.

It was done through the London embassy/ consulate.
I think each country uses its local embassies for E visas now.

FYI
I gave the passport control my 60 day e-visa and he started to give me the 30 day VE, when I had to alert him I had given him my 60 day e-visa

So just watch for that.................

is there something different about the stamping process to know the officer is not going to give 60 days to then be able to alert them before they write the date?
Actually good question

I don't remember exactly what happened
But there was something that happened in the exchange that he forgot I had the E-Visa and I had to remind him

Actually he may have asked how long I am staying and when I said 45 days he said I needed a visa and I reminded him I gave him my 60 day E-visa

I think that is what happened

I'd just be aware to make sure that they realize you have the e-visa

Have been given 30 days a couple of times when I should be automatically given 90, thus the question. Rather not be in their face as they are typically sensitive souls and I am not there for work most of the time, which is the basis for the visa.

I think mine was because he had to look at the other Covid pass and such

So the E-Visa sort of got lost in the shuffle

They can be sensitive, although this guy was rather nice

I must have missed the notification, but was in Chiang Mai Central Festival Mall and spotted an Immigration Office down one of the passageways, sure, looked it up and the one at Promenade Mall has closed. It is a better location, about 1/2Km walk from the bus terminal all be it accross busy highways. There was a RTC bus R1 that terminated there, but I have not seen any buses in a fortnight and guess these have been suspended.
