Plan is:
Fly into BKK 9th April
Cambodia 14th April day trip
Depart Thailand 3rd May
Well, if you plan on coming back to Thailand after May, (like in June, July, August) it's probably better to get the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa, then you don't have to worry about (or waste time getting questioned for) In/Outs and Tourist Visa extensions and hassles or Visa Exempt Stamps.

I agree.

However, based on your itinerary, enter on a 30 day Visa exempt, with a return ticket within 30 days, get a re-entry permit for 1000 baht (single) at your local Immi office (not a land border crossing) which will last until your original permit to stay expires or used.
(a re-entry permit is the same as a Visa at land borders)_

And tell your rellies that's 1000 baht less you've got to stake them for the casinos 555!

That sounds like a good solution.

Yeah, looks like the 6th, 13th, 14th, 15th and possibly the 17th (April) will all be National Holidays next year... Immigration will definitely be closed on those days. You should be able to get it done from the 10th - 12th... though it could be really busy.

I got a 1 year NIO multi last year Oct from London, costly postal order, reason I had used 30 day visa exempt for 4 times in one year and they started to question me on the 5th saying red flagged as max 6, never overstayed and always at least a month between visits; the visa gave me enter before 24 Oct 2016, effectively I have had several 90 day entry periods as I never stayed that long but if I enter before 24th I get 3 months which makes it almost a 15 month visa.
Now if I do not renew can I get an exempt again soon after will be my question?
