Visas to western countries ease/difficulty

I live in Canada on a WP(could actually be a citizen many years ago)
My wife receives an open work permit for the same duration of my WP and is allowed to work anywhere she wants
She also has to get a Temporary Residents Visa to travel outside Canada and the US.

We just applied for her new TRV and it got approved in 4 days!

Then you look at all the Aussies who I hardly ever see get denied and you have to think all this moaning you hear on these forums on how difficult it is to get a visa is just forum lore.

We got 1 denial for US and 1 for Canada and looking back, although I was upset at the time, she didn't have credentials.

Then you look at the flip side at how you can never get a proper visa in Thailand while our TG's are getting citizenship, medical insurance, pensions.

Also factor in how many mutts would be taking back every girl they bar fined that they didn't know

All I would say to people starting out and in a real relationship.... the visa process to our countries is actually not that bad

I agree about the OZ process.... it is daunting when you first look at it, but if you work through it, don't lie, odds are, you will be successful in getting your girl to OZ.

Also agree with both of you ... you do hear plenty of huffing and puffing about the visa process... cost of the visas, length of time for process residency visas, how much paperwork is involved are all common complaints..

But it in our current security climate, it should be somewhat difficult to get a visa, its important immigration are checking everyone meticulously, nothing can be afforded to be missed, and therefore this will take time, will cost more and will involve more paperwork.

I think Australia's yearly intake of migrants is about 150K ? plus god knows how many work visas tourist visas etc ( i am reckoning more than 2000 visas every single working day is passed or rejected) ... thats a hell of a lot paperwork to be checking from immigration's end .....

Be patient, invest the $4000 dollars it costs to be able to live here for ever, and be thankful we live in countries that accept people from everywhere.

Amazing how simple it seems after you've been through it all.
I don't think there is any newbie that would say it's not that bad.
It takes money, patience, time and persistence to get a visa to be able to stay permanently in Australia.
And so it should.

Dave I agree with it looking daunting and I almost got a agent to charge me $1000 to do a girl friends TV. Once you get your head around it its easy. Plus lots of help on this forum. Well for a TV anyway.

Over the past 8 years i have brought a lot of workers on 457 visa's from the Philippines. Thats a whole different story. Very hard and frustrating plus takes about $8,000 per person. Takes 9 to 18 months for approval and even then the rejection rate is high.

Somewhat related....

Ao just told me they heard Japan is going to cancel their visa on arrival for Thais because a lot of Thais didn't comply with their visa regulations

So that shows you that it is not that simple for countries

Ozzy, why dont you just give Australian workers a Job. I read the other day the unemployment rate is about 5% here. Im out of work and cant get a job and am not fussy.
I looked into trying to get a job as a cleaner and they wanted you to have 2 yrs exp, are they kidding? to mop floors.
The system here is a joke, stop the 457 visas untill every Aussie who wants one has a Job and then they can start thinking about giving foreigners a job.End Rant

Australians won't do the jobs. Australians are unreliable. Australians won't do the paid over time if required.

That's in my workplace anyway..

In our industry we cannot get skilled trades people. We lost a lit of guys to the mines as well.

457 works only get approved if on the skills shortage list.

The problem with the Aussie guys in my industry was that they are unreliable, lazy, disrespectful to equipment and management and constantly want pay rises. We found this mainly with the guys under about 35 years old. With the older guys they are a bit better but the skills level was poor due to lack of training available in Aust. The overseas people I employed are from Philippines, UAE, NZ and the UK and had much better skills and attitude.

Of coarse not all are the same.

Fair enough Ozzy, but if this reliance on workers from OS continues to go on, and no Aussies are trained and given a go what will happen in the future. Will we sack the Aussies and make them go on the Dole and then rely on a transient work force?
That might work in places like Dubai but not here .

Tingtong we are steeling Marc tread and getting off subject. But to answer i came to a point that i had no skilled Australian workers to train apprentices. For a few years I could not employ apptenisces because of his. I then looked overseas and once i had good tradesman again we started employing apprentices. With apprentices we found after a few years they left and never finished there trade, we then started to select overseas workers who had young sons so we could train the overseas guys son's,

Its much the same as why we like Asian lady's for a wife. So much better than western lady's for so many reasons.

Marc as you may know i sold my businesses in January so now sort of semi retired. I was in the Automotive industry.

I still consult a bit and one thing i do a bit of is helping other business find overseas staff from the Phil's. Its another way to get my trips paid for 5555 hopefully I'm off to Cebu late Jan to source staff for a client, may fit in a few nights in the bars and do some wife interviews 555.

Maybe similar in Australia... but in the UK when unemployment is high, local British workers complain they will do anything etc... but as soon as the economy picks up, local Brits don't want to do the low paid jobs... and disappear... hence why overseas workers are picked... they will last thru any economic climate...

Same thing happened this last year in Canada
A poltical party trying to get into office made a big stink of the foreign workers program and they halted it immediately but no Canadians except kids want to work in the fast food restaurants

No surprises there then. Maybe the fast food restaurant pay issue is a whole thread by itself....555
Do agree local workers are much less motivated to work than the imports. Not the fault of those so imported.

Back to the OP. Met a guy complaining about fortress Canada and visa denial for his fiancé. Found out later that she had overstayed in Singapore which was probably the reason. Assume he knew, but maybe not!

We are absolute wimps with our visas.....we dont do one thing we are not allowed.
We know so many Thais that are so flippant about theirs
One girl overstayed in the US and then tried using her friends passport just to go to US for the day shopping!!
